Constructed from 18 oz Martexin original waxed filter, midnight black, twill canvas. This beautifully crafted material is recognized the world over as the gold standard for quality and durability. The waxed element of this material ensures a lifetime of stain-resistant durability through a lifetime of use.
The sommkit is 25 ½ inches long by 13 inches high. The upper section contains one large pocket for placing items such has serviettes and other larger tools. The lower half of sommkit has several smaller pockets that can be used for personalizing your experience with the tools you prefer when working with wine.

James Martin emigrated from Ireland as an experienced dyer and set up a dye works in Philadelphia in 1838 called James Martin & Company. In 1850 James and his son Thomas J. set up a new mechanized dyehouse a short distance away at Richmond and Tioga St. known as James Martin and Company’s “Richmond Dye Works.”

sommkit is assembled in PROTOCOL’s home town of San Diego, CA. Given our proximity to the international border and the common practice of fabricating materials in China, it would be an easy path for sommkit to be created off shore to save money. However we strongly feel that the sommkit should be fabricated in America with the highest quality craftsmanship.
As it happens Triplex Manufacturing Company calls San Diego its home. Triplex has a 70 year history of assembling fine textile and leather goods. Herman Krasne and his son Leo started doing business in San Diego in 1946. Triplex is still a family owned and operated San Diego based company that is recognized around the globe. The products they assemble can be found in thousands of outlets worldwide.
